Male Infertility
Approximately 10 - 15% of couples attempting conception are infertile. Of these couples, 50% will have a contributing male problem. Evaluation of male partners should occur in any couple experiencing difficulty conceiving. Advances in reproductive technology now allow men, previously considered infertile, to become fathers. See the Male Infertility Web page for further information.
Vasectomy Reversal
Men who have previously undergone vasectomy may later decide for a variety of reasons that they wish to have another child. No matter how many years since the vasectomy, a reversal is possible. The procedure is done under a microscope and takes only 2 - 3 hours to complete.
If performed by Dr. Schow,
vasectomy reversals are highly effective for restoring sperm
to the ejaculate with a 95% success rate. Dr. Schow offers a Vasectomy Reversal Refund Program
at the Minnesota Men’s Health Center. The refund program
offers men a monetary refund if there is not more than one
million motile sperm in the ejaculate within one year of the
vasectomy reversal. Dr. Schow performs about 130 - 140
vasectomy reversals annually.
Vasectomy
Vasectomy is a safe and highly effective form of contraception and over 500,000 vasectomies are performed each year in the United States. The procedure is performed in the office, is essentially pain free, and takes approximately 15 minutes to complete. Dr. Schow has published several articles and also a textbook chapter on how to successfully and safely perform vasectomies.
Dr. Schow performs approximately 75 vasectomies a year.
